Ministry Issues Safety Advisory on Dealing With Aggressive Stray Dogs in Qatar
The Ministry of Municipality has released comprehensive safety guidance to help the public identify warning signs of aggressive stray dogs and take appropriate measures to avoid dangerous encounters.
According to the Ministry, certain behaviors may indicate aggression in dogs, including prolonged staring, raised fur, growling, barking, or sudden movements. Recognizing these signs early can help individuals react appropriately and reduce the risk of injury.

In the event of a direct threat or attack, the public is advised to use any available means to protect themselves while remaining calm and avoiding turning their back on the dog. Sudden movements or panic may escalate the situation.
To prevent encounters altogether, residents are strongly encouraged to avoid passing through areas where stray dogs are known to gather, particularly during nighttime hours.
The Ministry also warned against feeding stray dogs repeatedly in the same location, as this may cause them to consider the area part of their territory, increasing the likelihood of aggressive behavior.

Additional precautions include steering clear of areas where puppies are present, as adult dogs may become defensive. Individuals are also advised to avoid making direct eye contact, which dogs may perceive as a challenge or threat.
In the event of a dog bite, the Ministry stressed the importance of seeking immediate medical attention at the nearest health center or hospital to receive the rabies vaccine, even if the wound appears minor.
The Ministry urged citizens and residents not to underestimate any injury, emphasizing that acting quickly can save lives.
